Our Firm Offers Unbundled/Limited Legal Services To Clients Working Independently
You are not obligated to have an attorney represent you in your divorce or family law matter, (though it is recommended). You may feel comfortable representing yourself, but just need a little help. You may not feel your case is very complex, so you do not want to spend the money for a lawyer to do everything. Or, you may not be able to afford the costs of having an attorney represent you through all aspects of your case. In these situations, you may want to consider limited legal services (unbundled).
Limited legal services are a way for South Jersey Divorce Solutions to assist you with part of your case while you represent yourself. You only pay for the services or parts of the case that the attorney helps you with. The lawyer may do things like:
- Prepare documents
- Explain the meaning of legal documents/cases
- Advise you on your rights and responsibilities
- Advise you on the appropriate legal actions to take in your circumstances
Understanding Your Full Responsibility
With limited legal services, you are responsible for your case. The lawyer will coach you as to how to handle your case. But you are the person who will be appearing in court and arguing your case. The exact services your attorney will perform is something you and she will need to establish. Because you are doing much of the work, you can greatly reduce your legal costs.
This may not be the right process for everyone. When you appear in court, you are held to the same standards as if you were an attorney. You are taking on more responsibility than you would normally have when you are represented by a lawyer. You need to carefully consider if this is the right option for you.
Considering Representing Yourself?
Melissa provides unbundled/limited legal services to those clients who are comfortable or desire to represent themselves in court. She will sit down with you and review what areas you need her assistance in. If you do not want or need an attorney to sit with you through every step, but you want some help in representing yourself, Melissa can work with you to prepare you to represent yourself in court.
