Our Firm Offers Unbundled/Limited Legal Services To Clients Working Independently
Although working with a lawyer is very helpful (and often practically necessary), you are not legally obligated to have an attorney represent you in your divorce or family law matter. You may not feel your divorce case is very complex, so you do not want to spend the money for a lawyer to do everything. Or, you may not be able to afford the costs of having an attorney represent you through all aspects of your case.
If you have decided to represent yourself, you may nonetheless need or benefit from just a little help and guidance. At South Jersey Divorce Solutions, our attorneys can provide you with basic and affordable guidance in your divorce or other family law matter through our unbundled legal services.
What Kind Of Help Is Available?
Limited legal services are a way for us to assist you with part of your case while you represent yourself. You only pay for the services or parts of the case that our attorneys help you with. For instance, your lawyer may do things like:
- Prepare documents
- Explain the meaning of legal documents/cases
- Advise you on your rights and responsibilities
- Advise you on the appropriate legal actions to take in your circumstances
- Inform you about New Jersey’s requirements for property division and other issues that will likely be part of your case
- Help you understand child custody laws and guidelines for New Jersey child support
In short, we are here for as much or as little help as you require.
Understanding Your Full Responsibility
With limited legal services, you are responsible for your case. We will coach you as to how to handle your case, but you are the person who will be appearing in court and arguing your case. The exact services your attorney will perform is something you will need to establish early on in the process. Because you are doing much of the work, you can greatly reduce your legal costs.
This may not be the right process for everyone. When you appear in court, you are held to the same standards as if you were an attorney. You are taking on more responsibility than you would normally have when you are represented by a lawyer. Therefore, you need to carefully consider if this is the right option for you.
